Acrylic

What is Acrylic?

Acrylics are a collective term for chemical compounds consisting of esters of acrylic acid and alcohol. Acrylics are often used for industrial floors.

The product has been used in various areas for more than 30 years. It's also used in health care and is therefore well tested for adverse effects.

Advantages of acrylic used as industrial flooring are:

  1. Quick cure time, after a few hours you can use the floor.
  2. Cures quickly even at low temperatures 0-5 degrees.

  3. All steps (priming, flooring, and varnish) can be performed on the same day.
  4. Good light resistance can be achieved, suitable even outdoors.

Acrylic compositions contain monomers that can be irritating and allergenic. Products from Eradur AB are in no case classified as toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, harmful to the fetus or risk of reproductive ability. Good ventilation is important and that the air is not reintroduced to the room when laying acrylic floors. In the case of poor ventilation, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and headache can occur. During the laying period and a few hours afterward, a strong odor arises which can be perceived as unpleasant. However, the smell is completely harmless and is due to the methyl methacrylate (MMA) contained in the product. Methyl methacrylate or methyl 2-methyl propanoate is an ester of methacrylic acid and methanol of the chemical formula C₃H₅COOCH₃. After the floor has hardened, which takes about 2 hours, the smell ceases and the room can be ventilated.

To know how to handle the product in the best way, we who work with MMA have been trained per the regulations of the Swedish Work Environment Authority.
